+ Challenges + Goals

Challenges
  • Competitor apps in the market feel outdated and too academic.
  • Most profile grid systems used are too minimal to be of use at first glance.
  • Users are often intimidated by complicated processes.
Goals
  • Help users to find and book certified tutors.
  • Provide clear step-by-step walkthroughs for any type of user.

+ User Persona

Picture
Lulu
Age: 36
Education: Bachelors in Nursing
Hometown: Guttenberg, NJ
Family: Single mother with one teenage daughter
Occupation: Nurse
Lulu is a single mother of a 15-year-old teenager. She works long shifts as a nurse at Guttenberg Medical Center, and is not able to consistently check in with her daughter day in and day out. Lulu noticed her daughter’s academic results have slowly suffered and attributes this to her not being a consistent figure in her daughter’s life, and checking in on her schoolwork. She also doesn’t make as much at work and is going to night school to earn a Masters in Nursing, so she can apply for promotions at work or find other higher-earning positions at other medical centers nearby.

+ Research Study

Research Goal
Research Questions
Figure out if the step-by-step processes to book a tutor, as laid out in the app, is as friendly and streamlined as we claim.

I conducted an unmoderated usability study to find out this out.
  • How long does it usually take a user to book a tutor through the app, from start to finish?
  • How many tutor profiles does a user go through before making a decision?
  • Are the step-by-step instructions inviting and neutral as it can be?
